This weeks weekly bite is for all my seafood lovers out there. What better way to kick off summer in Maine than enjoying a lobster roll on the water? If that makes your mouth water like it does mine, you’re going to want to check out this cool spot. The Bait Shed in Scarborough, Maine is one of the most unique waterfront restaurants you’ll come across. There is no inside seating - just a shed and a dock. The shed houses the kitchen and a countertop bar service for guests waiting to be seated. The seating area is simple but beautiful - picnic tables on the Bait Shed’s small and winding pier.
Dinner with a view - outside seating only!
When I visited, I went for the classic lobster roll. And trust me, it won’t leave you hungry. The roll is more like a sub - it’s massive. Any true lobster-lover will tell you they don’t like too much mayo on their lobster rolls, and while this roll definitely had mayo, it wasn’t overbearing at all. Served with a pickle, potato chips, and a little coleslaw, it’s the perfect meal to satisfy your sunburnt stomach after a long day at the beach.

If you’re a tourist in town, you might want to indulge in a variety of seafood. Don’t worry - the Bait Shed has you covered. Check out the Slider Trio; a mini lobster roll, crab roll, and shrimp roll served with a pickle and slaw. With the same amount of seafood as the classic lobster roll, you can get your daily dose of vacationland’s most delicious seafood in just one meal.

If these dishes aren’t making your stomach growl enough, have no fear. The Bait Shed’s menu is large and in charge of satisfying your needs. If you’ve saved enough room for desert, I recommend the Bread Pudding, made in house at the shed. It’s a perfect desert to split with the table, so make sure to ask for extra spoons. This bread pudding is fluffy and rich, and left me thinking about it for days after I indulged.
In-house Bread Pudding
The Bait Shed is far from your white table cloth seafood restaurant. It doesn’t entail black tie attire or small portions that will break the bank. Every buck is worth it at this quaint little shed. You’re stomach will surely be happy after a meal here, and the view is worth a visit in itself. The Bait Shed is totally Maine - beautiful in its simplicity and rich with authenticity.
